Transcription of a telephone interview conducted by Dr. Walton S. Moody. He interviewed Dr. Malcolm R. Currie on his work with defense acquisition. Dr. Currie was the director of Defense Research and Engineering in 1973. Army acquisition and material management development was the focus of the interview. Dr. Currie was nominated as Director of Defense Research and Engineering in 1972. Currie served NATO on special assignments for DDR&E. Currie discussed his close relationship with Deputy Secretary Clements. Currie discussed the Defense Advance Research Project Agency took up its work as the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in 1958. In 1972, a DoD directive changed the name to DARPA and establish it as a separate defense agency under the Office of the Secretary of Defense. In 1993, the agency again became ARPA, but in 1996, PL 104-106 changed the agency name back to DARPA. Currie was a part of the process of change in these agencies.
