Operation Lam Son 719 was meant to cripple North Vietnam's offensive capabilities, at least temporarily. However, the ploy backfired as the South Vietnamese inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy forces and substantial damage to their logistics, but the incursion was aborted before its goals were achieved.
