This study deals with the May 1943 through August 1945 period and covers the earliest planning in the War Department for materiel demobilization done by the Office of the Director of Materiel, Army Service Forces. This activity was subsequently organized in the Office of the Director of Industrial Demobilization which supervised and directed the demobilization planning of the Army Service Forces staff divisions.
