This documentary traces the history of postwar relations between Americans and Germans in Germany. Starting in 1945 and ending with the withdrawal of American troops nearly a half century later, the film recalls such key events as the 'Berlin Airlift', the Marshall Plan, and the formation of NATO. It captures the emotions of the era through a wide range of eyewitness accounts, film shots, feature-film clips, newsreel, Army training films and photos with insights offered by numerous generals and statemen. It shows how anxiety after WWII turned into friendly co-existence, how the American 'occupiers' became liberators, then friends.
