"This study was prepared in February 1942 by the Chief Supply Officer of the German Eighteenth Army for the attention of the Army High Command. The purpose of the study was to outline the accomplishments of the Eighteenth Army's supply and transportation organization during the first three months of the Russian campaign and the problems encountered because of the peculiarities of the Russian theater. The manuscript was found among the documents of the Departmental Records Branch, A.G.O. Mr. George W. Garand of the Writing and Translations Section, Foreign Studies Branch, Office of the Chief of Military History, has translated the German text and changed the organization and chapter headings of the study to provide greater clarity." -- Preface, June 1953.
