From Preface: "traces the evolution of the SERGEANT weapon system from its inception through development, production, and deployment. The first chapter chronicles the technological advancements and feasibility studies leading to the initiation of system development in 1955. The next two chapters focus on the problems and weaknesses inherent in the contractual and project management structure and their impact on the execution of the program. The remaining narrative traces the weapon system through the various stages of design, development, production, deployment, and product improvement. The study ends with a resume of the current status of the weapon system and a brief glimpse into its future as an active member of the Army's land combat forces (21 January 1971).
