This television series centers on the NYPD's Major Case Squad (and the offbeat Detective Robert Goren) in its efforts to stop the worst criminal offenders in New York. It also puts a new twist to the "Law & Order" formula by showing the crimes as they are planned and committed. Premiering on NBC in 2001 and lasting ten seasons, Law & Order: Criminal Intent is the second spin-off of the highly successful crime drama series Law & Order and focuses on the criminal justice system from the criminal's point of view. In the style of the original L&O, episodes are often 'ripped from the headlines' or loosely based on a real crime that received media attention.
