Estanislao del canto (1840-1923) was one of the most prominent military of the nineteenth century Chilean, when the country became a "land of war." The soldier, who would become General of the Republic, participated from a young age in the political conflicts of 1859; years later it was an integral part of the pacification of Araucania; He was one of the most prestigious military of the Pacific War and, finally, was the Commander in Chief of the Constitutional Army, which defeated President Balmaceda in the Civil War of 1891. As one of his biographers said, "he became a legendary soldier and a boss whose courage was a symbol of victory." No doubt, Estanislao del Canto - along with other soldiers of the Chilean Army - represents the figure of the hero, who was so important in a country that was struggling to consolidate the national state in its first century of independent life. The book that we present includes a main work of del Canto, its Military Memoirs, to which two documentary annexes have been added. Annex 1: Official part of Estanislao del Canto, Commander in Chief of the Constituent Army on the battles of Concon and Placilla (August 21 and 28, 1891). Annex 2: Interview of Armando Donoso to the Singing General. The texts are preceded by a preliminary study by Professor Alejandro San Francisco, entitled "The General Estanislao del Canto in the history of Chile", which illustrates the life, work and historical context in which he lived. With the present book Centro de Estudios Bicentenario, the Military Memories Collection begins, which aims to contribute to the knowledge of Chile's list and its Army. -- back cover translated.
