The object of this study is provide a record of both the action and the experience gained by the the European Command in the Berlin air lift. The Berlin air lift of 26 June 1948 to 30 September 1949 had two purposes. Initially it was intended to maintain American, British, and French occupation establishments in Berlin in the face of Soviet restrictions on military rail and highway transport to Western Germany. Its second objective was to support the inhabitants of Western Berlin pending the re-opening of normal transportation channels. Both of these purposes were achieved with success.
