General Matthew Ridgway: In my review I ran across a document in my personal files, dated 26 December 43, covering in considerable detail the tasks assigned and the part played by the 82d Airborne Division in that operation. It is, I think, rich in lessons of what not to do in the planned tactical employment of airborne troops in combat by large unit staffs unfamiliar with their capabilities and limitations. Naturally it sheds much lustre on the 82d, its Staff and troops. I thought it might be of interest to certain of your Academic sections. It is an accurate and authentic historical document prepared by participants shortly after the events detailed. Some text is unreadable.
