Although the USMA collection has been cited as a prototype for a national military library, no claim of comprehensiveness is made by the editors of this work. The military art in these volumes have been interpreted broadly to encompass all aspects of the evolution of warfare on land, at sea, and in the air. The Academy's collection is strongest in the land aspects of the subject. This listing represents selections from the general dictionary catalog, some duplication of entries will be noted. An unevenness in coverage corresponds directly to the peaks and troughs in the financial history of the Library, the Academy, and, perhaps the Army itself. The periodical collection is not reflected in this catalog. The appended preliminary manuscript listing is indicative of the nature and scope of that collection - the richness of local history materials is evident.
