Front portion of scrapbook contains information on Gen. Gruber's time as commander of Fort Leavenworth (1940-41), followed by original telegrams of condolence sent to his wife upon his death in May 1941, followed by some information on the Army's adoption of the Caisson Song (written by Gen. Gruber) as the Army Song in 1956. The back of the book contains photos of important friends inscribed to Gen. Gruber, photos of friends from the German staff college in 1912, and photos of Gen. Grubers' early life in reverse chronological order. Included are three tintypes of Gen. Gruber as a child and handwritten notes of explanation of most of the pictures. Includes 2 short narratives handwritten by Gen. Gruber. The first concerns a musical skit he was in in the 8th grade. The second describes how he got his first job and how he decided to enter the Army. (Written on the back of photo of C.H. and D. Railway) Also contains a loose card that contains Gen. Gruber's wedding announcement from the Cincinnati Volksblatt. (German language newspaper) 2 topographical sketches made by Gen. Gruber while at West Point, are also included in this section.
