27 hour graduate level survey course focusing on Sub-Sahara Africa in which students study historical and current issues effecting the entire continent. Course begins with a study of the history and geography of the region to establish an academic foundation to understand current events. Studens will study US foreign policy in Africa from both African and American viewpoints. Students prepare and present a 15 minute presentation on a major African conflict and a 50 minute class discussing a major issue causing either conflict or hardship in Africa. The course is not a country by country study, but rather a survey of continental history, issues and conflict.
