27-hour course analyzes the role of areospace power during historical military campaigns from World War II strategic bombing in Europe through the present. The list of possible campaigns includes: Battle of Britain/Operation Sea Lion, WW II strategic bombing in Europe., Operation Citadel-- the Battle of Kursk, Operation Strangle/Diadem--Italy, WW II strategic bombing-- the Pacific, Berlin Airlift, Operation Strangle/Saturate--Korea, Rolling Thunder, Linebacker I & II, the '67 Arab-Israeli War, El Dorado Canyon raid, Falkland Islands/Malvinas conflict, and Desert Storm. Specific case studies and historic examples are used not only to support learning the conventional paradigms but to highlight the need to develop new responses to dynamic situations. Lesson 1 is an instructor-led discussion of the role of areospace power in warfare and an introduction of a 12-part campaign analysis model. Each campaign analysis will review the following contextual and operational art elements: objectives, political, international, social/cultural, environmental, deception, centers of gravity, logistics, technology, intelligence, targeting science, measuring success and lessond learned. Upon completion of the course the student should understand the basic power relationship of state as well as nonstate actors; the necessity and implications of dealing with operational and contextual elements in campaign planning; and the dynamics and complexities of evolving international and joint systems. Course materials consist of: Campaign analysis bullet background papers; Book of readings.
