Mary Adelaide Nutting played a leading role in the shaping of the modern nursing profession. She was active in the establishment and continuing work of the national organizations and international conferences which would serve as pressure groups and policy makers in defining standards for training, urging state licensing and registration, and promoting professional consciousness and unity.
