126 volumes covering Bourke's service on the western frountier, November 30, 1872 - July 12, 1890. The diaries give an account of the military dealings with the northern plains Indians as well as the Apaches of the southwest. Native cultures and customs are detailed through journal entries, newspaper clippings and ledger drawings (many in color).
