Access is restricted. 19 hour subcourse designed to provide the basic conceptual and analytic skills necessary for assignments involving the development of national security policy and military policy. It provides the link between the military services and their function as a part of the defense establishment in national- and international-level policymaking. This course will also review the current defense policy of the United States, the development of U.S. nuclear strategy, and a military posture assessment of the United States and the Soviet Union. An European assessment is conducted with emphasis on U.S. goals and interests in western Europe, threats to those goals and interests, U.S. military planning considerations, and problems in the Atlantic Alliance.
