The course focuses on light infantry division operations. It builds on the material presented in P315 and P316 and requires the student to apply AirLand Battle doctrine and sound tactical judgement in the employment of light infantry divisions in a variety of situations. The course considers both contingency missions and employment of light infantry in Europe. Students will be required to prepare papers and present briefings describing historical example of the employment of light infantry division size forces which details the reasons for the success or failure of the particular operations. On completion, students will have a better understanding of the capabilities and limitations of light infantry divisions, current concepts for employment of these divisions on contingency missions, their utility in Europe, and have a historical perspective of the principles governing the successful employment of light infantry forces.
