This subcourse provides an environment for examination of tactical command and control and the provision of effective communications at the corps, division, and brigade levels. Instruction is focused on the commander's need for information to support the decisionmaking process. Information metabolism and the facilities, procedures, and organizations that comprise supporting command and control systems will be discussed. Emerging doctrine and the impact of technology will be explored in terms of current command and control issues based on contemporary writings. Factors contributing to the survivability and effectiveness of command and control systems and the trade-offs that must be effected between them will be evaluated. Course includes: Lesson 1, Focus of command and control; Lesson 2, Command and control systems; Lesson 3, Preparing for battle; Lesson 4, Controlling the battle, and Lesson 5, Emerging doctrine and the impact of technology.
