This individual development course acquaints students with Napoleonic warfare and its impact on 19th- and 20th-century military history. It analyzes Napoleon's battles, the counterinsurgency operations in Spain, and the operations in the peripheral theaters of war. While concentrating on the theory and practice of war during the period 1792 through 1815, the course reviews the art of command, leadership, and tactical and strategic theory. It seeks to determine the relevance of the Napoleonic experience to modern war.
