35 hour subcourse focuses on the principles of division staff operations which might be viewed as very fundamental, but which are, by their very nature, critically essential to effectively plan for and conduct of operations in the AirLand Battle. The subcourse examines the U.S. Army doctrine defining the roles and responsibilities of the commanders, assistant division commanders, chiefs of staff, and the coordinating, special and personnel staff groups. More specifically, this subcourse studies the very important role each of those individuals play in the military decisionmaking process, a process which is intrinsic to the preparation of staff estimates and the operation plan or order. Course materials include: Subcourse manual; afteraction reports and exam advance sheet; Lesson 1, Command and staff relationships; Lesson 2, Decisionmaking -- Part 1; Lesson 3, Terrain analysis; Lesson 4, Decisionmaking -- Part 2; Lesson 5, Plans and orders; Division operation plan/order format; Organization for combat - G3 worksheet; Maps, Overlays.
