Efforts to preserve peace in East Asia depend heavily on what happens in the Korea Peninsula. It is there that the interests of four major powers - China, Japan, the Soviet Union and the United States - come directly into play. This paper will therefore ask two main questions: what is needed to keep the peace on the Korean Peninsula? what situations could trigger war?
