Access is restricted. Subcourse builds students' analytical and problem solving skills through an examination of the major communist competitors' activities in Northeast Asia. Subcourse allows student to use strategic analysis model introduced in P512, Strategic Considerations and U.S. Defense Policy, to conduct U.S. defense planning relating to a regional assessment and case study. P513 begins with an introduction to the national objectives and interests of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). The significance of their bilateral relationship and its impact on U.S. national security is assessed. The subcourse then examines U.S. security interests, commitments, and associated U.S. defense planning considerations in Northeast Asia. Special attention is paid to U.S. interests, commitments, and defense obligations in Korea as well as other key national actors in the region.
