The book has been published in 1957 but before the launch of the first satellite: Sputnik 1. It describes the American Earth Satellite Program and it contains many photos of the Vanguard project. It explains how satellites are constructed, how they will be launched and it anticipates how they will be used: spy satellites, telecommunications and space stations.
