The DALB is the first scholarly dictionary of American library history and describes distinguished personalities who have contributed to library development in the United States from Colonial times to June 30th of the Bicentennial Year. The biographies present a panoramic view not only of the men and women who founded and built American free public libraries, the monumental university and research collections , the school and special libraries, and the complex of library and information networks throughout the country but also of those who influenced American library growth.
