In this March 2014 interview, MAJ Nathan Minott, US Army, Air Defense Artillery (ADA) discusses his time as a rear detachment commander for 2-44 ADA in 2010 through 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). MAJ Minott talks about being sent to Afghanistan as a liaison officer (LNO) for two months before his unit deployed with the forward element preparing the brigade to do Reception, Staging, Onward movement, and Integration (RSOI). He describes how he returned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky and took over as Rear D commander and talks about having no training for the job and learning on the fly. He discusses some difficult challenges he faced and shares how he reorganized the unit to best utilize the expertise of his Soldiers. He shares a specific memory of moving the entire unit into new barracks, motor pool and office. MAJ Morris closes his interview by stating, "Big lessons learned, Rear D is a tough job. It really is."
