The 9th Armored, the division that would not die, was the only American armored division on the scene when Hitler's massed Panzers smashed into the Ghost Front of the Ardennes on December 16, 1944. Its three combat commands waged desperate battles in widely separated sectors, Combat Command B in the north at Saint Vith, R in the center at Bastogne, and A in the South at Beaufort. Twice reported destroyed by German radio, the 9th refitted in France, dashed from the Roer to the Rhine, and captured the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. Firing its last shot on the last day of the war, it ended its final campaign at Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia. -- From the book jacket.
