In this May 2014 interview, COL Gary Brito, US Army, Infantry discusses his deployment to Afghanistan with III Corps as the Deputy Director for Afghanistan National Security Forces (ANSF) Development working in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Joint Command (IJC) in 2013 through 2014 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). COL Brito talks about preparing for the deployment and his pre-deployment training. He describes the make-up of his directorate and talks about working with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces. He also discusses preparing for the 2014 Afghan elections. COL Brito closes his interview by stating, ". . . I would like for it to be written in the history books that III Corps again had a significant part in the history of this world, in the history of warfare and in the history of what I think will become a promising future for Afghanistan. I sincerely believe that. I think our country will get us there. There is a lot of work to be done, but just in my short time in reading the short history of the previous years of the war from 2001 forward to when we were there in 2013 into 2014, the country has come a long way."
