In this October 2012 interview, MAJ Robert Petrosky, US Army, Logistics, discusses his deployment to Iraq as a maintenance officer for 3rd Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade, 203rd Forward Support battalion, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) from 2002 to 2003. MAJ Petrosky discusses the issues regarding picking the correct equipment to take on the initial invasion of Iraq. He describes traveling into Iraq and finding many broken-down and abandoned vehicles and crews. Specifically, he describes finding lost vehicles in the desert and pulling out stuck fuel trucks. MAJ Petrosky closes his interview by stating, "I am not saying zero-defect was a good thing, but I do think being selective was a good thing. While we still had a number of duds floating around, there were a lot less. As you went to OIF 2 and then OIF 3, it just seemed like in the rush to build numbers we were making exceptions to folks that we otherwise would have gotten rid of -- lowering standards in effect. This is kind of like, I want to say, we are paying a price for it now."
