Those who fail to study history are destined to repeat it. This is true for military history as well. Military history provides its professionals with heroes and battles that create a sense of patriotism, honor and sacrifice. Military history can teach us that occasionally war can save more lives than it takes. It can provide insight into why and how people fight. However, this is all for not if the military professional chooses to ignore its storied past.
