"Herewith is submitted the study which you requested for use in preparing the Ardennes volume. It covers the action at and around the twin villages of Rocherath and Krinkelt, Belguim, ono 17-19 December 1944." -- Royce L. Thompson, memo dated 13 February 1952. -- "1. Here is the draft of the study by Thompson which you requested. Use the draft as you like but make clear to any interested person that it is in the raw. 2. The reason for the study is this. The fight at Krinkelt-Rocherath was the turning point in the advance of the right wing of the Sixth Panzer Army. Here the 2d Infantry Division (reinf) and remnants of the 99th Division stopped the bulk of the I SS Panzer Corps cold. The right shoulder of the German salient, as a result, never shook free." -- Hugh H. Cole, memo dated 20 March 1952.
