MAJ Drew Maddry served as the company commander of Headquarters, Alpha Company, 115th Forward Support Battalion on FOB Rustemayah, Iraq in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In this 8 October 2008 interview, MAJ Maddry discusses this pre-deployment training, the challenges of moving equipment into theater, his unit's on-the-fly up-armoring of their vehicles, and the additional challenges of leadership of a diverse group of soldiers. MAJ Maddry closes with the observation that "you definitely have to lead from the front. You have to set the example for your soldiers."
