Deployment is difficult for many reasons. The things that concern us seem different, yet in many ways they are the same. Regardless of how long you've been in the military, how much training you've received throughout your career, or how many deployments you been on, deployment is not easy. It brings out the good and the bad in all of us. It's extremely strenuous for all, however being deployed as the First Sergeant is unlike any position held within the unit. This paper will describe my deployment as the First Sergeant of the 420,h Movement Control Battalion. It will cover my unit's mission and my unrelenting struggle to earn the respect of my peers, the Noncommissioned Officers, Soldiers, and Officers I served with.
