Alice Rains Trulock chronicles the life and military career of Joshua L. Chamberlain, a college professor who became one of the Union's most decorated war heroes during the American Civil War. Fighting in Fredericksburg and Gettysburg and wounded six times in all, Chamberlain was selected by General Ulysses S. Grant after the siege at Petersburg to receive the Confederate surrender at Appomattox.
