Many of Fort Gordon's buildings and streets honor individuals who made significant contributions to the United States and the U.S. Army. Some of the memorials commemorate eras in the installation's history. For example Leitner Lake commemorates the name of one of the more than three hundred families who gave up their homes to make way for Camp Gordon, where thousands of soldiers trained during World War II. Many of the memorials honor Military Police and the Military Police School, Fort Gordon's major school from 1948 until 1975. As Fort Gordon's mission has become more and more Signal Corps' focused during the past two decades, so have its memorials. Examples include the Signal Towers administration building and five of Fort Gordon's streets named for Signal corps Medal of Honor recipients.
