Hitler's plans to capture Antwerp were not compatible with his military commanders, therefore causing confusion. The arrival of 101 51 Airborne Infantry Divison at Bastogne was key in the defense against the Germans. Logistics played a major role in the Germans not being successful in their attempt to rally westward. 3. Conclusion. The 101st Airborne Infantry Division performed exceptionally well by keeping the Germans from penetrating into Bastogne. By the 101 51 holding Bastogne, it slowed the German's progress and then broke their supply trains. The actions of the 101 st Airborne Division shortened the war and secured peace for many nations.
