From 1972 supplement, Introduction, page 2: In July 1965, the First Brigade was deployed to Vietnam and the remainder of the Division followed in December 1967. The Division was engaged in combat from Saigon to Quang Tri and supported offensive operations in Laos and Cambodia. As combat actions began to wind-down, the Division assumed various civic actions projects and participated extensively in the Vietnamese pacification program. The Division began its redeployment back to the United States late in 1971. The 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) had been the last division to leave the combat zone. After the Division had completed its redeployment and was officially welcomed home on 6 April 1972, it began to rebuild itself and train for the future.
